THE STATE OF THE STATE: A SUMMARY

The Governor’s state of the state address was filled with hope for the rough times ahead. He started by saying that the state was strong but could be stronger, and that the resilience of the state lies within the strength of the people. The Governor explained his budget and the bills being considered in the Senate to raise revenue. He reassured the state about the crises facing it and assured us we would get through it. His goals for the state are to fix the auto industry, preserve the middle class, work on smarter spending throughout the state, and fix the unemployment problem. In conclusion the Governor asked to “Bury the hatchet” with the Senate so they could work together, unite the parties and focus on the issues. He ended with the statement that his hope was for future Boys Stater’s to look at this year as the year the state was turned around. The Governor really has been trying to accomplish all these goals, however he has faced opposition. This has nearly paralyzed his office as the Senate has yet to approve his budget, and without his budget the Governor really can do nothing. The fault lies with the senate if it lies anywhere.
