In a short walk from the Griswold Hall to the Miner’s Hall, I interviewed Governor Jeremy Browning. Twenty minutes and already busy, he graciously offered me time to go over his positions on issues that will be addressed this week.
On the State Budget: “I will make the state budget number one priority.” Browning stated confidently. He went on to explain that he planned on maintaining programs already running, and that he would distribute the state’s revenue equally among the cities of Boys State.
On State Funded Health Care: “I would push for state funded health care.” There are poor people who cannot afford health care, he went on, and it is the duty of the government to protect them, as they are vital members of Boys State.
On the Legalization of Marijuana, Browning stated that he would not support legislation pushing for any type of legalized Marijuana, explaining that recreational use of marijuana would be detrimental to an already failing work force.
On the Issue of Same Sex Marriage, Browning will not support the legalization of same-sex marriage, but would instead make it so that there are less advantages to being in the legal institution of marriage, and would create a partnership for homosexuals that would give them equal status of a married couple.
On Education: Browning will work to strengthen the educational curriculum, with four years of English, three of mathematics, three of social studies, two of foreign language, and a mandatory course on Genocide and world awareness.
On Industry: the governor promised to negotiate with business conglomerates and corporations to prevent job outsourcing, using incentives for businesses to stay.
