Troubles during First AGF Session

The Board of Education was refused word from the governor’s administration during the first hours of AGF Tuesday night. Promptly afterwards an “In Session” sign was posted on the front of the door. Board of Education representative Mason Day, upset with the abrupt refusal, had this to say. “The governor wants to get rid of Boys State.”

Things were not much more productive elsewhere. In the governor’s office, plans for cuts and raises for the budget were being discussed, with consideration shown to cutting funding in state operations, military, and transportation, and giving more funding to education, tourism, and shelter assistance. The House of Reps offered up a bill for the age restriction on tobacco smoking to be raised to 21 years. So far the governor has not announced a budget plan to congress.
