Marvin Corner is the sailor of Boys State. He has served on the USS Hornet, Valcoraup, Preserver, and the Atka. He served from 1953 to 1957 as an Electrician Mate. He has been as far north as 80 above Barrow Alaska (the northern most point of Alaska) and has walked on the ice of Antarctica. He has worked at Boys State for 15 years and has been a Legionnaire for 30 years. Corner feels that to get everything you can out of Boys State you need to be self motivated, a team player, a clear speaker, and respectful to all people.

Corner also said that to be a good leader one needs to be a good follower; to be a good leader one has to be able to understand the position of a follower. Such knowledge will help you make far more reasonable and thoughtful orders and requests, he said, adding that if you can do this you will go very far in life.
