Adams City Chief of Police Sues Mayor

Adams City Chief of Police Michael Winkler is suing Adams City mayor Robert (Chip) Tuson for increased pay and better benefits. Police forces originally asked the previous mayor for a 10% increase in pay and better benefits but he had declined them. Now, as a new mayor and police chief have arrived, the police force has asked again with much more force. Patrolmen already earn $60,000 annually and some question if a pay raise is necessary.

Due to a recent budget increase, the Chief Winkler was able to give all of his men a large pay increase and said that some additional benefits would greatly help the policemen and their families. Chief Winkler intends to take this to the court and secure his men their benefits. “My men put their lives on the line everyday and they deserve their benefits and pay increased.” Chief Winkler said. Mayor Tuson said “I think that this lawsuit is ridiculous. We haven’t even got the budget worked out all the way yet and they’re already suing us. With the budget right now their getting paid way more than officers like them in other cities.”
