A Wisner County family has taken gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson to court as a result of their son’s accidental gun death. The Eastman family is suing S&W for damages after their son was accidentally shot and killed by a family friend who was playing with the family’s loaded and primed firearm. The family claims the instructions for putting the gun on safety were too complicated and is now holding S&W accountable for their son’s death. Although, Smith & Wesson has offered the family $100,000 to settle the issue outside of the courtroom, the family persists—facing the risk of counter-sue by S&W. The Eastman family hopes to win $13 million for compensation.
