Who will I outrage today?

Many of you may have read the article entitled “Childish Actions Delay Washington City Elections” which I submitted to yesterday’s edition of the Whirligig. The article, which in a highly satirical manner criticized a group of Washington City citizens who caused a delay in their conventions, led to a series of intimidations directed at myself. Because I reported on a negative occurrence in my city, several fellow citizens confronted me in a menacing manner, asking me why I would attack my own city.

Besides the fact that the article was supposed to be a humorous piece, the issue at heart here is an attack on freedom of the press and the free flow of information. As many of you know the constitution allows the press to report on any goings-on and, short of libel, criticize public figures how they see fit.

While some fellow citizens supported my article, there is no reason why any reporter should feel ostracized from his own city for simply writing the truth. So I say to those few members of Washington City, boo-hoo. Learn to take a joke.
