Jefferson’s Reaction to the State Conventions

The Nationalist and Federalist parties of Boy’s State gathered yesterday to choose their nominees for state offices. The people of Jefferson City had mixed feelings about the outcome of these conventions. Nate, a Nationalist, said that the battle for governor became far too personal, so much so that the candidates began slamming each other’s physical traits (at one point, a potential governor was called a “penguin man” by one of his peers). However, this level of intensity kept the meeting exiting, says Nate. There were also negative views of the Federalist's convention. One anonymous Federalist believes that the process became a popularity contest, with more focus being placed on the candidate’s personality than their particular views.
