Harrison-Jackson-Jefferson Joint Sewage Plant Proposed

As of 9:00 pm Tuesday Harrison, Jackson and Jefferson have begun talks to work together to solve a sewage problem shared by all three cities. The current plan is to build a sewage treatment plant that would reside in-between all three cities which are fairly close together. DEQ officials have been recently pressuring the cities with a threatening daily 200,000 dollar fine if the cities don’t act quickly. The three cities hope to get the state government to allow the plant to be built as it doesn’t reside in any of the city’s boundaries and are hoping the state government will help pay for it as well. Many residents of Harrison also hope the plant is built soon as sewage leaks are contaminating the Scarbrough River.
