What do you think of the election process, and what happens leading up to the elections at Boys State?

Joe Habib:

To me it’s a great example of democracy in action. We’re getting the youth, who are our future, involved in government, so that they can lead the way.

Whirligig:

What made you decide to pursue the office of The Attorney General?

Joe Habib:

I’ve had experience in the legal world. I’ve clerked at Akouri & Associates where I’ve been to court, and seen, and experienced the legal world in action. I’m undefeated in my school’s debate team, but I don’t want it to be about my credentials, I want people to know, and understand my views, and speak with me about them, and share their own views with me. I don’t want to be a walking placard; I want to represent you, and your beliefs.

Whirligig:

What are your positions, and views on the key issues?

Joe Habib:

On tobacco lawsuits, I always support Boy’s State, and will do everything I can to help them.

However, unfortunately it is a private civil matter, that the Attorney General’s office has no jurisdiction in, but will always support Boy’s State Citizens.

As for, alternative sentencing it depends on the severity of the crime. I always want to rehabilitate the criminal so they can make a positive contribution to society, as well as, giving closure to the victims’ families. If I can make an example of a rehabilitated criminal, and if that will stop crime, I will always choose that method. I am here to protect Boys State, and its quality of life, and fight for you not just put on a show for your votes.

Whirligig:

How do you plan to serve the citizens Boy’s State?

Joe Habib:

I have an open door policy where you can talk to me about anything, anytime, anywhere, in a comfortable environment, where your opinion’s will not be judged but taken into consideration, and used for the construction of policies beneficial to the whole of Boy’s State. And always feel free to file any complaints about anything and know that they will be taken care of promptly. The city is doing what it can at this point to keep sewer services available for the rest of Jackson”. There were many reports of sewer lines going out since this main line went down. The issue, as usual, is much-needed repairs through funding? The State has limited any infrastructure funding in the past year. “The City of Jackson is trying not to increase any taxes or services”, said the last years Mayor.
