An Open Letter to the Citizens of Boys State

In the midst of a state crisis, the Boys’ State Senate adjourned today to watch A SOCCER GAME!! At approximately 10 A.M. the session was called to a close and members left the chamber in search of a television set.

Our sons and daughters are clashing with police forces right here at home and our representatives are concerned more about events in Germany at an event most Americans either intensely dislike or just completely ignore.

The Senate is merely part and parcel of an entire state government apparatus that is out of touch. The Boys’ State University Board of Trustees was warned will in advance of the possibilities of violence and did nothing. The Governor chose not to supplement the local police forces in Taylor and mayhem ensued. And the finale to this disgraceful episode in state history is the embarrassing, degrading behavior of the Boys’ State Senate.

Our son, Kevin, died a noble death fighting for the things that make America great. Today we are ashamed of the dereliction of duty shown by our elected representatives. We sincerely hope they can get their collective acts together before any more mayhem threatens the security and lives of our fellow citizens.

Sincerely,

Steven and Michelle Roberts, Thomasville
