The American Legion Legionnaires are the reason Boys State exists. They provide the funding for the program, and most of the students are sponsored by an American Legion Post. The Legionnaires also run the camp office, the bank, and provide mail services as well.
Educational Staff
The educational staff is the backbone of the program, they run the day-to-day activities and plan the educational content, among other things.
The Senior Educational Staff consists of staffers who have been with the program for a number of years, and each runs a specific portion of the program. Each staffer is in charge with a specific part of the educational program and provides guidelines for the program to run under. Each staffer also assists in the day-to-day operations of the program and ensures that everything runs like a "well oiled machine".
Counselors
Counselors are the "frontline" of Boys State. The counselors make sure the Boys Staters keep on task, and are typically in a supervisory role. They also ensure that their cities make it to various activities on time. The role of a counselor is primarily one of a guide or a facilitator. Counselors encourage the citizens to learn by participating in the various activities available, and answer any questions asked by the students.
Program Assistants
Program Assistants do much of the "behind-the-scenes" work at Boys State. Each Program Assistant is assigned to a specific part of the program and do a lot of the "grunt work" involved. They assist Senior Staff members to facilitate learning in their specific division of the program.
