Greetings from the Secretary of State!

The job of the Department of State is in the keeping of public records, driver's license registration and control, and voting registration. In doing this, the Department of State works hand-in-hand with the Department of Transportation and the State Police. Working under the Department of State are offices like the Department of Motor Vehicles and the branch offices of the Secretary of State.

The Secretary of State is the keeper of Boy's State's Great Seal. Any bill proposed, passed by the Legislation, and signed by the Governor must be stamped by the Great Seal. The Secretary of State is also the recorder of State records and holds onto patents and trademarks.

The Secretary of State for Boys State this year has some very interesting and informative programs in store.

Starting with a program dubbed as "Real ID," the Secretary of State is working on a way to create a form of identification that will suitably work as a passport. The use of the biometric ID will be mandated by the state and put into effect where each citizen will need to update to it. This is effective in that the ID can be dubbed as a passport and a driver's license and effective works for half of the cost.

Next, a program is being instituted named "Be Safe, Be Seen." This pedestrian awareness program supports the use of reflective material or bright, easily seen at night, clothing. This aides drivers as their view of pedestrians becomes very difficult at night. Also, it has the potential to save the lives of walkers, bicyclists, and many others as they travel in a non-motor vehicle fashion.

The Secretary of State is starting to enforce and regulate strict rules for voting locations. As voting is the major way of involvement in the government, the regulation and mandating of it must be strictly conformed to.
